Do you have a stinky trash can? Have you noticed even when you take the trash bag out, the plastic seems to be stained with the scent? You could just throw the whole thing away, buy a new one, start over. But you would be wasting money, time, and affecting the environment.
Better to learn how to actually clean the trash can. The process is not actually that terrible either, cleaning it is a lot easier than you would think.
These cleaning tablets can be made once a month or as often as you need. Just pop one out when you realize that the smell is unbearable. Gather the things you need to make these cleaning tablets:
- 2 cups of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
- 1 cup of Epsom Salt
- ¼ cup of water
- 15 drops of essential oil (choose something fresh like lemon or lavender)
- An Ice Tray (this will be used as a mold, so silicone is the best for getting them out later)
Start by combining the Baking Soda and Epsom Salt together. As you slowly add in the water, it will fizz a little. Fizzing is okay as long as you can continue to stir, and make a crumbling paste.
Adding in the essential oils after the water is combined in, make sure you thoroughly mix it. The crumbly paste should be scooped into the ice tray and set to dry. Make sure to press firmly into the ice tray so there are no air bubbles trapped inside.
After filling and pressing the silicone ice tray, you’ll want to set it in the sun for 24 hours. These can be removed from the tray once they’re completely dry and stored in a jar. Make sure the container they’re stored in is air tight and can securely keep them fresh.
Place one of these at the bottom of your trash can. The tablet works to absorb the smells and release a clean scent. These can be placed at the bottom of trash cans, inside of toilets, diaper bins, or anywhere that water may be accumulating and a bad scent is put off.
